Gorbals Greatest Garden 2024 competition has come to a close and the winners have been chosen!
Local gardens were nominated by tenants and residents in spring 2024, before judging commenced in July. The judging panel was made up of housing association staff and Tenant's Panel members, who chose one overall winner and two runners up.
The winner and runners up received B&Q vouchers to help keep their gardens great.
Winner
Mr Smith, 18 Mathieson Terrace
Mr Smith was shocked and delighted to have won, but says he has put a lot of work into his garden and to the pathway out to the shared garden, so that his neighbours can enjoy the flowers. As winner, Mr Smith receives a voucher for B & Q which he intends to put towards a new garden shed and he says he has starting making plans for the garden for next year already as “defending champion”!
Runner Up
Mr Mulligan, 173 Waddell Street
Mr Mulligan only took up gardening recently, and works on it with the help of his granddaughter Beth.
Beth also happens to be the Scottish and British Junior Tae Kwondo Champion and is looking forward to the Championships coming to Braehaed next year.
Runner Up
Jean Sechaud and William Gormley, 470 Caledonia Road
Jean and William look after the communal garden at 470 Caledonia Road to make it a welcoming and relaxing place for residents. When we visited to judge it was buzzing with people.
