Great Big Green Week 2024 Litter Pick Jun 10, 2024

Join us this Great Big Green Week 2024 for a litter pick round Gorbals on Friday 14th June from 10.30am.

Meeting at New Gorbals Housing Association Office, 200 Crown Street, the litter pick will take place over three areas in the Gorbals, with groups splitting up to head East, West and South. Each group will have a designated litter drop-off spot which the NGHA Landscape team will collect at the end of the pick.

The litter pick is expected to last around an hour and we will welcome all volunteers back to NGHA office for a light bite at 12 noon.

The event is the fifth litter pick organised by the Association in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful and Glasgow City Council. As part of the partnership, NGHA is a designated litter pick hub, which means volunteers can come to collect equipment and litter pick whenever suits. The Association also runs monthly litter picking events in designated areas around the Gorbals.

This month's litter pick ties in with Big Green Week 2024 which runs from 8th to 16th June and is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect and restore nature.

Tenant Participation Officer, Susan Burn notes that “by keeping the Gorbals tidy and free from rubbish, we can allow our green spaces to thrive.”

Local resident and volunteer Veronica shares why she got involved with litter picking in Gorbals:

“Living in the high flats you see things in a different way from just walking around and the amount of rubbish blowing into our river is getting worse.

“So instead of just moaning about it I decided to see if it was bothering other people too. Aye it does! After a first litter pick with Keep Scotland Beautiful, I’m delighted we now have our own group in action in the Gorbals.”
