Gorbals Ideas Fund hosted their Big Summer Shindig on 4th August 2018 at The Barn and what a day it was.
They welcomed over 130 community members through our doors to find out more about the wonderful ideas up for funding and decide which of these ideas they wanted to fund.
Fourteen local people and groups had applied for funding to support their ideas, all of which were designed to make the Gorbals an even better place to live; they covered everything from health and fitness, to social activities and environmental improvements.
All of the applicants were on hand in our Marquee Market Place to talk to the community, share their ideas, tell them more about their plans and encourage them to get involved. It was a wonderful day that resulted in lots of positive connections and it’s safe to say everyone enjoyed the family fun provided too (just check out the photos!).
- And the winners are…
As always everyone aged 8 and over and lives in the Gorbals was entitled to vote for their 3 favourite ideas. The top 3 ideas were Glasgow AFC Football Club, The Gorbalites and Gorbals Men’s Shed all being awarded around £1000.00.
We had £10,000 to give away and, as with every event, we awarded money until it was gone so we were also able to fund:
- Friends of Southern Necropolis
- SEAL
- STEM in the Gorbals
- Laura Green Dance & Fitness
- Caledonia Rd Livingwell Club
- Devon St Livingwell Club
- Silverfir St Livingwell Club
- Glasgow Zine Library
- Logo Design Competition
Earlier this year we launched a Logo Design Competition in our local schools. We received over 150 entries – all of which were amazing! The Community Panel shortlisted 6 of these entries, which was very difficult, and we asked the community to vote for their favourite at the Big Summer Shindig too.
The winner was Freya Docherty! Freya won £100.00 in vouchers of her choice and will work with a professional Graphic Designer to turn her drawing into our logo which we’ll launch at our next event in September.
The runners up each win £50.00 in vouchers of their choice too and we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to share their great ideas with us!
