Toys for local kids this Christmas Dec 20, 2017

Some local families and children will have a more comfortable Christmas time this year thanks to a generous donation.

Virgin Trains on-board staff have come together to raise money for those in need this festive season.

Charles Sproulle was inspired to make a difference after reading a social media posts about kids who have very little during this time of year. Deciding to spring into action, he messaged colleagues to see who could help out with donations and was overwhelmed by the response he received.

Donations flooded in from his colleagues at the Glasgow Depot and word spread to colleagues across Scotland who wanted to take part.

From a modest target of only a couple of hundred pounds, Charles and his generous colleagues managed to smash their target, raising £2500 in the space of a week.

We were fortunate enough to secure some of the money raised towards Christmas presents for 25 local children, which were also picked out and purchased by Virgin Trains staff. Gifts were also donated to children in Partick, and Virgin Trains staff also performed other acts of kindness at a local Morrisons store buying people's shopping at random, and by picking gift wishes from the Christmas Tree at Braehead.

Our chosen local families were also provided with money for food shopping at local supermarkets to help ease the cost of Christmas dinner.

New Gorbals Housing Association are incredibly grateful to Virgin Trains on-board staff for their generosity.
