Pest Control

Pest such as rats and mice are always present in urban areas, and we understand that it can be distressing to see them in your neighbourhood.

Pest control treatments are managed by Glasgow City Council and not by the Housing Association.

If you have a problem with rats, please visit this Pest Control page on Glasgow City Council website. Here you can report any issues and find out more information about the pest control services they provide.

You can also call the Pest Control team on 0141 287 1059.

Prevention

A big part of pest control is prevention. There are a number of things you can do at home to discourage mice and rats from entering your home and neighbourhood:

  • Keep your garden free of waste and rubbish
  • Place all rubbish in your bins and keep the lids closed, particularly bins with food waste.
  • If you have waste that cannot fit in your bin, you can take this to one of Glasgow City Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) free of charge.
  • Please do not feed birds in communal gardens as this encourages rats
  • Report any fly tipping to Glasgow City Council

New Gorbals Housing Association is committed to preventing pest issues in our properties by carrying out internal proofing work. Please note that we do not normally carry out proofing work in common areas unless we can clearly identify where the pests are gaining entry.  This is due to the number of gaps in the fabric of the building, which means we cannot guarantee that all areas will be securely sealed.
