Local MP Visits Gorbals Community Pantry
Gorbals Community Pantry was delighted to welcome local MP, John Grady, to view the affordable food space on 18th September 2026.
Having launched in March this year, the Gorbals Community Pantry now has over 180 members who use the service which operates at 12 Commercial Court, in the Riverside area of Gorbals.
Mr Grady attended to view the pantry and understand the services available to the people of Riverside. He met with pantry volunteers who shared their experiences of being involved in the project, from pre-launch preparations to ensuring the pantry runs smoothly week on week.
The Gorbals Community Pantry is open on Wednesdays from 11am to 1pm and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm. This helps to ensure those that those who have work or caring commitments are able to attend when suits.
Membership of the Pantry costs just £5 per year and this entitles you to either a £3 or £6 shop per week. The £3 shop is designed for single people or couples whilst the £6 shop aims to ensure families have access to essentials for the week.
New members are always welcome, with Pantry volunteers on hand to guide new members through their first shop. Sign up here or fill a form out at the Pantry to join.
Melissa Gillen, Participatory Budgeting Officer at New Gorbals Housing and Pantry lead, said:
“We are delighted with the community response to the pantry in the first six months since opening.
“It was great to be able to welcome local representative John Grady MP to the space to share what the community, along with the Housing Association, have achieved so far.
“Although the doors have only been open for six months, we have plans to evolve the Pantry further as a community space, with opportunities for groups to meet and potentially cook together using food available at the pantry.”
