NGHA Launches Three Year Tenant Participation Strategy
Following on from the success of our first Tenant Participation and Engagement Strategy in late 2024, New Gorbals Housing Association has now launched a three-year strategy, emphasising its commitment to tenant engagement.
The extended Tenant Participation and Engagement Strategy 2026-29 was approved by the Association in May 2026, setting out five key goals for the coming years.
Jean Miller, Chair of New Gorbals Housing Association said of the strategy:
“As a community-controlled housing association, tenants are always at the heart of what we do.
“It’s vital that we continue to provide opportunities for tenants from all walks of life to participate and engage in our work and the wider Gorbals community.
“I am pleased at the Association’s direction and vision for this, laid out in the new three-year Tenant Participation Strategy.”
Goals include increasing the number and diversity of people involved, looking at wider opportunities for people of Gorbals to influence the national picture, and importantly, to evidence the impact that tenant participation has made on NGHA services.
Tenant Participation Officer, Susan Burn, said:
“I am delighted with the work of the Tenants Panel in producing a three-year strategy which we can collectively work towards.
“Our first strategy looked at what we could create and offer to engage Gorbals tenants. Now we plan to strengthen those foundations as we look at who else we can encourage to participate, and how best we can engage with them.”
As with the original Strategy, the three-year plan was led and developed by tenants of the Association. In addition to providing input to the strategy, NGHA’s Tenants Panel will also review the Strategy and its action plan at six-monthly intervals, to ensure the Association remains on track to achieve the Strategy’s goals.
On being a Tenants Panel member involved in the Strategy, one tenant said:
“I enjoy knowing that tenants’ voices are listened to, also that we are making an impact on helping the Housing Association. I am happy to be involved in the Strategy discussions which are meaningful for tenants and housing.”
The Strategy outlines an Action Plan which contains the detail of how the Association plans to achieve the aims of the strategy. This includes things like opportunities for wider and national engagement, and offering support for community empowerment in key areas of the Gorbals.
