NGHA Volunteers Week 2026 Celebrations
The Association will host a special event on Wednesday 3rd June 2026 in recognition of those who volunteer with us to benefit the Gorbals community.
The event also serves as a volunteer drive, giving those in the community the chance to see what volunteering opportunities there are with the Association.
More than 70 local people who either volunteer already, or have expressed an interest in volunteering, have been invited along to our 200 Crown Street office from 5.30pm to 7pm. Here they will have the chance to find out about the different volunteering opportunities available and how to get involved, whilst enjoying a light bite.
Those attending will hear from some of the volunteers that have given their time and effort to the Association over the past year in a number of different capacities.
Local resident Helen is a well-established member of the Tenants’ Panel, who in the past year has also joined the Scrutiny Group and helps out at the G5 Cinema:
“Volunteering in whatever capacity, gives a person purpose while making a positive contribution to the community.”
The event falls on National Volunteers Week, an annual celebration of those who volunteer, which runs from Monday 1st to Sunday 7th June 2026.
Resident Linda attended the Gorbals Ideas Fund art group and found a calm, creative space. She then volunteered to speak at the NGHA Tenant Conference in March 2026 in the hope sharing her story might encourage others to take part:
“I volunteered to speak at the tenant conference to encourage more people to get involved, for example to come to the art group on a Friday morning. I enjoy being creative in this quiet space with like-minded people. It’s good for my wellbeing.”
NGHA offers various volunteering opportunities for local tenants and residents, from joining the Association’s work in the form of Tenant’s Panel or Management Committee to community meals and events, as well as the work of Gorbals Ideas Fund.
The Association provides volunteering mentoring and support, giving people the tools and knowledge to volunteer with confidence in the community.
NGHA’s Community Co-ordinator, Michael Fullerton said:
“Volunteers Week gives us the ideal opportunity to pay thanks to all those who give up their time and efforts to work with the Association. to better the whole Gorbals community.
“We are so fortunate to have such a caring local community who actively participate in making the Gorbals better for all. To have the chance to speak to so many potential new volunteers and hopefully have them join the ranks is wonderful.”
