Pine Place Earns Scottish Design Award 2026
Our Pine Place development has secured a major prize at the Scottish Design Awards 2026.
The Association’s 28 home development was awarded the Residential – Multi Unit Gold Award at this year’s ceremony, which took place at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow on Wednesday 24th June 2026.
Pine Place, which is situated on the former site of Gorbals Health Centre, comprises a row of 10 terraced houses and a block of 18 flats. The houses are four and five-bedroom, predominantly accommodation for larger families, whilst the flats are one and two-bedroom, including two accessible flats at ground level.
Lauchlan Mitchell, Head of Development at NGHA, said of the award win:
“I am delighted that Pine Place has been recognised by the Scottish Design Awards.
“The vision was to create a functional and more sustainable development which would maximise living space whilst being sympathetic to the surrounding architecture. As always, we look to develop the highest quality social housing that we can for our tenants.
“I am pleased that Reiach and Hall Architects has been able to deliver this vision, earning a prestigious accolade for Pine Place as a result.”
Sustainability was a key focus in this development with all houses and flats constructed with a highly thermally efficient fabric and using renewably powered air source heat pumps to heat the homes.
Laura Kinnaird, Architect at Reiach and Hall Architects, said of the project:
“Pine Place was conceived as a continuation of the city – a quiet street of homes that supports everyday life with dignity and generosity.
“Working closely with New Gorbals Housing Association, the intention was to create something modest but carefully considered, where the relationship between home, street and garden contributes to a more humane urban neighbourhood.
“Built with a careful and efficient use of materials and energy, the development reflects a commitment to long-term sustainability through durability, performance and use.
“We are delighted to see the project recognised at the Scottish Design Awards.”
Designed by Reiach and Hall Architects and built by CCG (Scotland) Ltd, Pine Place was supported by Glasgow City Council, awarding £6.5 million in Housing Association Grant funding, with NGHA contributing £2 million in private funding. Tenants began to move into Pine Place in summer 2025.
